We took Joseph’s (Jojo’s) Mott Haven tour last weekend and it was an absolute delight. Not only was it fun to get off the beaten track and discover an area of the city we knew little about, but Jojo himself was a warm and charming guide it was enjoyable to spend the afternoon with. We truly appreciated his approach to history through a social and cultural context and we learned a lot. Highly recommend - we’d love to take one of his other tours as well.

The tour definitely exceeded all of my expectations. Jo is a highly passionate, dedicated and very knowledgeable person; he turned that day into my favorite one of the whole US trip. He even extended the tour length for free, to make sure I had the best experience and was not missing anything of the boroughs! Jo led a unique and fascinating walking tour of Bed-Stuy neighborhood in Brooklyn. I appreciate his personal interest in telling the stories of people who are not well know and/or who have not been given their rightful place in history. We need more tour guides like him shining a light on the many neighborhoods of NYC and their rich history.

We had the most wonderful tour of Harlem with Jo! We were in love with Harlem even before the tour but after our time with Jo our love deepened. Jo's knowledge is amazing and being a Harlem born he also shares many personal stories which bring the past to life in such vivid colours. I have never cried leaving a place behind but I did as the taxi drove us to JFK and I know a lot of is due to getting close & personal with Harlem through Jo. Joseph was great to work with. He did a walking tour of various NYC neighborhoods (Chinatown, Five Points, Little Italy, Lower East Side) for our company's team outing. The team loved the tour and all the information/history Joseph was able to share.

Joe recently served as a tour guide for our group, and he was AMAZING! He knows the city of New York very well, and is very knowledgeable of the history of New York. He is knew where all the “hot spots” were, and made sure our group had an experience to remember. This tour was the highlight of our trip to New York. We did a private walking tour that lasted 5 hours. An insight into neighbourhoods that we would not have toured by ourselves. Joseph provided history, insight and was so knowledgeable about Harlem and Mott Haven. He was also flexible, friendly and fun. It really was such a great afternoon. He took me to 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in The Bronx which, as a huge hip hop fan, was a moment of a lifetime for me. Thank you Joseph!

Joe is such a lovely person with a wealth of knowledge and a true passion for history. It didn’t matter to him at all that I was the only person on the tour. Many other guides would have cancelled or charged an astronomical price for a solo tour but Joe did it without even a hint of a complaint! He is a wonderful and infectiously happy person. The 3 hours we spent with Joe in Harlem the highlight of our trip to New York. Our fascinating tour covered Harlem past and present - its politics, its music and its people - all discussed in lively detail. Great places and moments in time were visited - historical facts underpinned and enhanced with personal anecdotes and lived experiences. Joe was sensitive to our existing knowledge and pitched the level perfectly so the content was always interesting and thought provoking (he even changed the planned route to visit spots he thought we would particularly like to see). Joe combines an in-depth knowledge and understanding of Harlem with passion, enthusiasm and a love for its history, its story and the people who lived and live here. He’s also a really nice guy!
